Casio is reinforcing its position in the hybrid smartwatch segment with the G-Shock Move GBA950. The latest model retains the brand's hallmark ruggedness while incorporating smart capabilities such as step tracking, Bluetooth connectivity, and dual-timezone support.
Known for its long-standing reputation among traditional watch enthusiasts, the G-Shock series continues to evolve. While many smartwatches rely heavily on touchscreen interfaces and daily charging, the GBA950 offers a practical blend of analog-digital design with fitness tracking, without needing constant recharging.
Priced at $150, the GBA950 syncs with the Casio Watches app through Bluetooth, enabling users to manage time zones, daily step targets, and fitness data. The watch adjusts its time automatically via the app and tracks step count, distance, and calories burned. It lacks a built-in GPS, but leverages smartphone signals for accurate distance metrics when paired. Offline tracking is also possible, though it may not match synced accuracy.
The GBA950’s secondary time display is easily customizable. Travelers and remote workers can quickly switch between local and home time zones using the app interface. All setup functions are managed within the Casio Watches app, available for both Android and iOS platforms.
Fitness insights are simplified. A real-time excursion meter on the watch face displays workout intensity on a scale of 1 to 5. Basic activity data, including steps and calories, are accessible on the screen. Casio has enabled Strava integration for users interested in syncing their workouts with the fitness platform.
The device uses a CR2025 battery expected to last around two years. Since there's no requirement for daily charging, the GBA950 appeals to users seeking minimal maintenance. Battery replacement is straightforward and cost-effective, though professional servicing is recommended to retain water and dust resistance.
Despite its smart functions, the GBA950 keeps the classic G-Shock aesthetics. It features a luminous analog-digital dial and includes a built-in LED for visibility in low-light environments.
The watch supports water resistance up to 200 meters and has a shock-resistant carbon fiber reinforced casing. These features ensure its durability in harsh conditions, positioning it ahead of rivals like the Apple Watch Ultra 2 and Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra when it comes to rugged outdoor use.
